| SEEK (Students Exploring and Expanding Knowledge) is the gifted education program for students who qualify in grades
three through eight. Classroom teachers make recommendations for testing based on classroom performance and/or achievement test
scores. Parent requests are also considered. In order to qualify for the SEEK program, students are screened using the SAGES test.
They must then score well on two tests, the Slosson Intelligence Survey and the Torrence Test of Creativity. Students are pulled out
of regular classes to meet once a week for approximately one hour and forty-five minutes. All-day field trips occur at the end of some
units of study when appropriate. Students who participate in SEEK are challenged academically at higher levels of thinking and
encouraged to work on creative thinking skills. Objectives for SEEK students include: demonstrating advanced and critical thinking
skills; developing research, self-management, and study skills; exhibiting positive talents, and creativity; demonstrating knowledge
and appreciation for individual differences; improving oral and written expression; and developing an appreciation of the fine arts.
The SEEK program coordinates the geography bee competition for all students in grades four through eight. SEEK also coordinates
the Spelling Bee for seventh and eighth graders in all county, city, and private schools in Wilson County. |
