Applications used in Computer Technology Courses


In the Computer Technology courses at MJHS, there are many different applications we use to help learn and create documents, web pages, advertisements, business cards, and flyers among many other things.

This page will outline and give a brief description of each application we use in our computer technology courses

Information Management Systems deals mostly with the applications included Microsoft Office, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access.  For more information on MS Office, click the link above.

Information Management Systems Applications

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is a word processing program.  You will learn such skills as typing business letters, making letterheads, and making business envelopes.  These skills will provide valuable in most any computer-oriented career.

Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel is a program that allows you to design, create, and modify spreadsheets.  You will learn how to create charts, enter values, and calculate values.  These skills will provide useful in any career that deals with ordering products, making charts, or just calculating sales.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Microsoft PowerPoint is a program that allows you to create multimedia presentations (slide shows).  In this program you can combine graphics, text, music, sound, and video to create business presentations, teaching presentations, or personal presentations.  It is a powerful tool and is used in many careers that involve business presentations.

Microsoft Access

Microsoft Access is a program that helps you manage data by putting it in a database.  You will learn how to design, create, and update a data base.

Document Creation Design and Desktop Publishing
E-Commerce and Web Page Design

These focuses mainly on Desktop Publishing and HTML design.  Being said, you will mainly use two different programs  which are Adobe PageMaker and Microsoft FrontPage.

Adobe PageMaker

Adobe PageMaker is a desktop publishing program.  It allows you to create just about any type of publication you would want to make, from advertisements to entire newsletters.  In Computer Tech II you will learn how to create, design, modify, and print newsletters, flyers, brochures, letterheads, business cards, and other things.
