GATEWAY ENGLISH                  (3080)            1 credit

An intervention option for students which will enhance the opportunity for success on the Tennessee Gateway Test for English 2.  Elective credit only; will not substitute for required English credit.

Focuses on those areas necessary for success on Gateway English 2 test, including reading, writing, viewing and representing, and speaking and listening.

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 1A (9408E1A)/

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 1B (9408E1B)     

                                                                                    1 or 2 credits

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Orients incoming students to high school academics through emphasis on communication skills.  The focus is on basic reading and writing skills (to include persuasive essays), spelling, usage, the review of grammar and its application, speech, and an introduction to basic literary selections. Emphasizes End-of-Course and  Gateway English objectives.

NOTE:  For those students enrolled for 2 credits, 1 elective English credit will be awarded for Fundamentals of English 1A and 1 English 1 credit for Fundamentals of English 1B.

 

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 2A (9408E1A)/

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 2B (9408E1B)     

                                                                                    1 or 2 credits

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Emphasizes specialized instruction provided in a flexible setting and focuses on written and spoken communication, spelling rules, reading comprehension, English grammar, and Gateway English 2 objectives.

NOTE:  For those students enrolled for 2 credits, 1 elective English credit will be awarded for Fundamentals of English 2A and 1 English 1 credit for Fundamentals of English 2B.

 

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 3  (9408E3)         1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Provides individual instruction in basic reading skills, functional grammar, spelling techniques.  Provides individualized help with the Gateway English 2 objectives, as needed.

 

FUNDAMENTALS OF ENGLISH 4  (9408E4)         1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Designed to prepare the student for practical usage of English, reading, and spelling skills that will be used on a daily basis after graduation.  Provides individualized help with the Gateway English 2 objectives, as needed.

 


READING                                              (9408R)           1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Provides individual instruction in basic reading skills for students who are recommended.  Recommendation is based on individual testing.  Students will read materials they enjoy and use in daily life.

 

LIFE SKILLS                                          (9408LS)         1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

A supplementary program that develops critical reading and thinking skills needed by young people becoming established in the community.  Practical applications include areas of insurance, banking, leasing, licenses, contracts, and taxes.

 

INDEPENDENT LIVING                (9408IL)          1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Tailored to meet the individual needs of the students who are presently functioning below grade level but will soon be faced with real life responsibilities such as career choices, marriage, money management, and safety.  This class gives each student the opportunity to learn and practice basic skills needed to function effectively in society.

 

LEARNING LAB                         (9408LL)          1 credit

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Designed to enhance the learning skills of students who want to be successful in the educational setting.  Emphasizes organizational and study skills.  This class is especially helpful for special education students who are college or vocational school bound.

 

GATEWAY ALGEBRA 1             (9481)             1 credit

An intervention  option which will enhance the opportunity for success on the Gateway Algebra 1 test. 

Elective credit only; will not substitute for required math credit.

Focuses on those areas necessary for success on the Gateway Algebra 1 test, including number sense and number theory; estimation, measurement, and computation; patterns, functions, and algebraic thinking; statistics and probability; and spatial sense and geometric concepts.

 

FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH 1A (9408M1A)/     

FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH 1B (9408M1B)                     1 or 2 credits

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Offers individual and specialized instruction to students.  Covers basic number theory and operations, percent, units of measurement, graphs, simple algebra, informal geometry, applications for money management, and consumer spending.  Emphasizes the Gateway Algebra 1  objectives.

NOTE:  For those students enrolled for 2 credits, 1 elective math credit will be awarded for Fundamentals of Math 1A and 1 math credit for Fundamentals of Math 1B.

 


FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH 2A (9408M2A)/     

FUNDAMENTALS OF MATH 2B (9408M2B)                     1 or 2 credits

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Offers individual and specialized instruction to students.  Covers basic number theory and operations, percent, units of measurement, simple algebra, informal geometry, applications for money management, and consumer spending.  Provides preparation for the Gateway Algebra 1 test.

NOTE:  For those students enrolled for 2 credits, 1 elective math credit will be awarded for Fundamentals of Math 2A and 1 math credit for Fundamentals of Math 2B.

 

Gateway Biology 1                              (9482)             1 credit

An intervention option for students which will enhance the opportunity for success on the Tennessee Gateway Test for Biology 1.  Elective credit only; will not substitute for required science credit.

Focuses on those areas necessary for success on the Tennessee Gateway Biology 1 test, including cells, interactions, photosynthesis and respiration, genetics and biotechnology, diversity, and biological evolution.

 

TRANSITION THROUGH CO-OP  (9498)             2 credits

Open to grades 11 and 12.

Placement by I.E.P. Team

Provides students with the information, support, and guidance to be successful in transitioning from school to work.  Students learn skills both on-the-job and in the classroom.
