Sustaining and Improving Upon Our Technology Integration Growth

Teachers Teaching Technology to Other Teachers

Judy Monroe, Principal
Diane Bennett, Technology Coach

What a difference a year makes!!   As a result of our success last year to effectively integrate technology in our teaching and learning processes, the focus in our second year will be sustaining that growth and expanding our program. Supported by our Director of Schools and the Wilson County School Board, a full-time Technology Coach will be also be available during the 2002-2003 year.  Our student test scores improved in two out of three areas (ACT and 11th Grade Writing) in the 2001-2002 school year; and as a result, we were awarded a bonus of $100,000 for the coming school year.  Funding will go first toward more teacher training.  We will also focus on purchasing software for use in math and science as well as mind mapping for higher order thinking using Inspiration®.  We will concentrate on improving student research skills through primary and secondary resources by utilizing Grolier online databases.   Each teacher will create a web page using TeacherWeb.com.  It is indeed a time to celebrate our accomplishments, yet realize we have so much more to do.  Most researchers agree it takes at least three to five years to adequately prepare systemic change toward effectively integrating technology in a school's curriculum.  Follow our second-year journey for sustainability and additional growth.
