Mr. Haines' Reflection of Lesson

Round Two Best Practice Lesson, The Art of Equations

David began teaching last year, following a career as an Army officer. His Army career began in 1976 as he completed a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in mathematics, from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.  His career in the Army involved traveling throughout the United States and around the world, including assignments in Hawaii and Korea, and travel to Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, Thailand, and the United Kingdom.   After leaving the Army, he completed the Teacher Preparation Program at Middle Tennessee State University (Murfreesboro, TN) and began teaching mathematics at Mount Juliet High School.

Mr. Haines' philosophy of technology integration is:

"The integration of technology into the mathematics classroom helps students move beyond performing monotonous routine calculations and focus on understanding new concepts.  By using technology, students can evaluate equations and graphs in minutes that would have taken hours to examine without the aid of calculators and computers.  Students learn when and how
to use technology in a world that is rapidly increasing its reliance on calculators and computers to carry out mathematical procedures."
