M.A.P. Academy is the Alternative Program for Wilson County Schools. It has been in existence for 11 years. The program has developed into one of the premier alternative schools in Tennessee. Several times a year, other county school systems visit to see the design of our program and how it helps students become successful academically as well as behaviorally. Our teachers take great care in promoting better decision-making skills to the students.

The program has within it the WhyTry Program and the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens program. These two programs easily mesh to provide students many hands-on activities to help improve their decision making skills. The students really have taken to the activities and state that it makes them really think about what they are doing with their lives.

We have many academic opportunities to offer students through our E4TN Program (Complete Online Courses) and our Recover Credit Program (for those who need to make up specific courses). We also maintain all core subjects in the areas of English/Literature, Science, Social Studies, and Mathematics. [There could possibly be changes made to your child’s schedule based on content of the subject and / or required hands-on activities for the class.

Our teachers really stress to students on a daily basis how to work with others and how to accept instruction from teachers. Many times it is just the way students present themselves and need to learn more about body language. We also participate in several programs to work on the issues listed above: WhyTry, the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and Life Skills training.

If you just want to come by and visit we have page that will direct you from several locations. Just call Shelia Greer at 615-453-3400 extension 1000. She will gladly set up a time for you to visit.

Mission For M.A.P. Academy
M.A.P. Academy will specifically serve Wilson County students who are unable
to achieve in a traditional classroom setting by teaching the normal
curriculum. There will be an emphasis placed on behavioral issues that
prevent success in the regular classroom. Our goal will be eventually
placing these students back into a traditional classroom with the academic
and social skills required to succeed within that classroom setting.
