Makenzie had labs done this am and went on a field trip with her class to see a play. She came home and slept for a few hours and began a little dry cough. I told her I thought she was getting sick and she told me she has been getting sick for the past 2 days.......She began feeling warm, having chills and having a headache around 8ish. I took her temp and it was 99. I took it every 10 min and it went up to 100.2 (still not 100.5 which makes us head to the ER), then it went down to 99. I breathed. 15 min later it was 100.7, then 100.9. I decided the thermometer might be old and need new batteries (denial is actually funny sometimes when you think back to what you actually pretend to believe at the time). It turns out that the thermometer works, I waited a few minutes until Madison fell asleep (1 less heart breaking thing to handle at the moment) and the fever was 101. Wilson left with Makenzie around 10 pm and the Dr on call told us to plan to spend at least a few days there.  Kenz is feeling badly. She is shaking from shivering so much, very warm to the touch, has a headache in 2 places (the words no mother of a child with a brain tumor can listen to without almost vomiting).  Right now I do not know what our needs will be regarding Madison and Justin. I am literally taking each moment as it comes for now. (Yes, I actually wrote that statement). I will get the kids off to school, pretend I am interested in what they decided to wear for wacky tacky day, make and deliver witches brew to each classroom as promised, and head to the hospital to hug my baby girl.
Wilson just called. Kenz is up to 101.2, her nurse was an oncology nurse in the ER, Kenz is questioning her needle length b/c the cover was on it and it looked too long (that’s my girlie- question if it doesn't seem correct) and a friend of Wilson's is in charge of the ER tonight. Although I feel guilty that Kenzie gets "extra" good care in the ER, I am secretly thrilled and feel blessed for that. She has started antib and is going to turn off lights and try to get some sleep. There are no beds on 6 (the cancer floor) so I will wait to find out WHERE they will put her. She isn't admitted for chemo drugs, so technically she could go to another floor- but it just seems too weird to me. Maybe a child will sneak out at midnight like Makenzie does.
