LEBANON, TENNESSEE — Three Wilson County Schools will implement new traffic patterns for the 2015-16 school year beginning the first day of school, Monday, Aug. 3.

Wilson Central High School, Elzie D. Patton Elementary School and Southside K-8 School will all have new entrances and exits for teachers, parents and/or students driving to the school.

“These changes were made to enhance student safety and smoother traffic flow during drop-offs in the morning and pick-ups in the afternoon,” said Deputy Director of Schools Mickey Hall.

“We urge parents to please notice and follow the signs when entering and leaving each campus.”

The teacher, parent and student entrance will be the first lower level entrance, according to Principal Travis Mayfield.

“The traffic flow goes behind the school and with the parent drop off/pickup zone at the Grand Hallway Entrance,” he said. “Buses will unload and load in the front of the main entrance of the school.”

Mayfield added that the front northeast parking lot will be teacher parking only, while the front parking lot will be visitor parking and bus loading and unloading only.

Elzie D. Patton Elementary School

The new entrance will be through the parking lot between Mt. Juliet Middle School and Elzie Patton Elementary and will include two lanes of cars in the morning drop-off line instead of one.

“Please note that this is totally different than in years past,” said Principal Dr. Wilma Hawkins. “For your and your child’s safety, please follow all entrance and exit signage.”

Parents should be prepared to stop and wait until all cars in both lanes within the loading zone have unloaded in the morning or loaded in the afternoon, and all children have been safely accounted for.

“Due to the new traffic pattern, parents will no longer be allowed to park in the middle school parking lot and walk their child over to the school entrance in the morning,” Hawkins said.

“Also, please remember that the front driveway is reserved for buses only,” she added. “Thank you for your patience and support while we transition to this new plan.”

Southside K-8 School

The entrance and exit will be switched for the new school year, according to Principal Richard Smallwood.

Parents and teachers will enter from Stumpy Lane and come around the building, he added.

“Middle school students will load and unload where they always have, while elementary students will come around and cross in front of the building – opposite from what they have done in the past and exit the new exit,” Smallwood said.

Buses and daycare vans will now enter what has been the exit to the school and will load and unload in front of the main entrance to the school, he said.
