Programs at TXR

Study Island – a computer program that offers tutorials and games in basic skills, including reading and math for students in 2nd – 8th grades.

Academy of Reading – a reading based computer program for our struggling readers. This will be utilized as a Tier 2 intervention for students.

Computer Labs – There are two computer labs for students. One is in the elementary wing and one is in the middle school.

Title 1 – We have two Title 1 teachers who work with struggling students in reading and math skills. They will be used also as part of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions. Title 1 also enables us to have additional staff development as well as a part-time reading coach, who will also be used in Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

SEEK – (Students Expanding Exploring Knowing) Wilson County offers an enrichment program to our gifted students. This year our SEEK teacher will be with us on Tuesday and Friday mornings. Students participate in the Geography Bee, the Wilson County Spelling Bee and our advanced 7th grade students are able to take the ACT.

Guidance – Classrooms receive monthly lessons on Character Counts as well as Peaceable Schools. Our counselor will also be coordinating the Second Steps program for grades K-2

Middle School – Electives for middle school students include PE, Art, Music, Creative Writing, Communications, Yearbook, Student Aides, and Study Buddies (peer coaching for the younger students in reading). Technology is taught all three years of their middle school career. When the 8th graders leave TXR, they are capable of producing research papers, PowerPoint presentations and projects. Our middle school teachers are part of the "Making Middle Grades Work" initiative sponsored by the Southern Regional Educational Board.

Clubs – Middle School clubs include Student Council and Beta Club. Student Council elections are held in the fall. Beta Club is offered to students with an A/B average and who exhibit good moral character. More clubs may be offered this year.

Advisory – As part of MMGW our middle school participates in the Advisory program, which allows each student to form a relationship with an adult that is constant through their middle school years at TXR. Times and focus will be set soon.

Athletics – We offer athletic programs to our students in 5th – 8th grades. Fall sports include football, volleyball and cheerleading. Winter sports include both boys and girls basketball and cheerleading. Spring sports include softball and baseball. Athletes must perform academically in order to be eligible to play. Further information  will be forthcoming.

Homecoming – Homecoming activities are held during both football and basketball seasons. The 8th graders elect a homecoming king and queen. Every other grade level chooses a representative to be part of the court. The entire school participates in homecoming activities.

Kids Club – We offer before and after school care. It is also available during the summer and intercession times as well as on most snow days. Students are offered a snack, homework time, field trips, play sessions and special interest classes. Students must be pre-registered to attend.
