Welcome to Tuckers Crossroads School for the 2008-2009 School Year

August 11, 2008

To those of you who are entering our school for the first time, I’d like to say, “Welcome to the Tuckers Crossroads Family!” To those of you who are returning, “Welcome back!” All of us are excited about this school year and hope to make it a memorable one for both your child and for you.

While we will continue our emphasis on reading, we will be adding an emphasis in math. Everyone in the building will be working on building basic math skills from the kindergartners to the eighth graders. We have asked all staff to be involved in this from the teachers and administrators, to the custodians, to the cafeteria staff and Kids Club. And we would like for you to be involved, too! Our goal is for every child to be able to know their basic math facts, addition, subtraction and multiplication, backwards and forwards by the time they leave Tuckers Crossroads.

We will be adding helpful links to our school website for your use. One of the most helpful sites is www.familyeducation.com. They have activities which helps parents work with their child at home on skills, not just math. If you don’t have a computer at home and aren’t able to visit the library in Lebanon where they have computers you and your child can use, please let me know and we will work with you in providing extra materials. Please look for more information to come home about our math emphasis this year.

I would encourage everyone to attend our TXR Open House/PTO Meet and Greet Event on Tuesday, August 26th. Look for more information to come home soon. We have several new teachers, a new assistant principal and there are those of you I didn’t get to meet last spring. Our new assistant principal, Jeremy Willis, comes to us from Mt. Juliet Middle School where he was a teacher and a coach. I am thrilled that we have the opportunity to have him added to our TXR family. A couple of our new teachers are just out of college, but others are coming to us from other school systems with a vast amount of experience. I truly believe you will enjoy getting to know them as I have already.

Our staff has been hard at work all summer, either working in their rooms, attending college classes, in-services or conferences. We all are excited about what we have learned over the summer and are anxious to begin to put it into practice.

As always, please feel free to stop in and see me.

It’s going to be a great year!
