There are 12 types of scholarships:
Free Application for Federal Student Aid: Will your student attend a state school? A FAFSA application will determine the amount of money for which you may qualify.
National Merit Scholarship: Students compete via Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test scores, academic and extracurricular activities and recommendations.
Work-Study: Schoarship winners work at part-time jobs on campus to defray costs.
Academic: Just as the name suggests these are based on academic excellence.
Athletic: The atletic counterpart to above.
Religious, Ethnic or Cultrual: Outstanding students from specific groups may qulify.
Career-Oriented: Ask a guidance counselor for a list of groups that offer scholarships in specific fields of interest.
Community Organizations: Examples: Rotary Club or PTA--They help deserving students.
Alumni Legacy: Your alma mater may offer scholarships to your children or grandchildren.
Employer: Some employers offer scholarships.
Transfer Students: Tranfer students with high marks may be eligible.
Other: Scholarships for students who excel in any of number of skills: art, writing, citizenship and more |
