ABOUT US It takes a NASA team of dedicated people to safely send an astronaut to space and back again. There are also alot of NASA employees conducting research in many areas right here on earth. A new NASA team is being formed called Earth Crew. Each Earth Crew is comprised of students, teachers and other adults dedicated to supporting the educator astronauts as they prepare for and explore space. In addition, earth crew members will participate in ground based projects and missions. NASA is currently recruiting students, educators, and families to join the team.
MEET THE INSTRUCTOR Leesa Hubbard is a teacher from Lebanon Tennessee. She went to Vanderbilt University and earned a masters degree. She is an aerospace enthusiast. She uses aerospace topics to motivate students of all ages and abilities. At this time she is currently working with the educator astronaut program and also the aerospace technology enterprise. She even has a cat whose name is Gus Grissom, which he is named after one of the original mercury seven astronauts. Thousands of people work at NASA who will never orbit earth as astronauts. These ground based engineers scientists technicians managers and other men and women in other professions are just as important as astronauts in allowing NASA to reach our nations goals of exploring and understanding space and our own planet. Earth crew members are students who join NASA in planning and conducting explorations without ever leaving the ground. Earth crew students receive email updates about new projects, participate in exploration related activities, and even provide suggestions to NASA to help in planning upcoming missions.
