CARPENTRY 1 (5731) or (5731V)
Open to grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 with preference given to 10 and 11  
1 credit

Board-approved materials fee may be collected.

Introduces students to basic carpentry skills, tools associated with carpentry work, and job safety.  The academic portion focuses on math training and review, technical data, and blueprint reading.  The hands on portion covers a wide range of hand and power tools required for carpentry work.  Students will receive instruction on the basic fundamentals of building techniques to include rough framing of floor systems and wall framing.

 

CARPENTRY 2 (5731B) or (5731BV)
Open to grades 10, 11, and 12
1 credit 

Prerequisite:   Carpentry 1, with 80% mastery of competencies or teacher recommendation

Board-approved materials fee may be collected.

A continuation of Carpentry 1 with more emphasis on safety, carpentry math, tool usage, framing operations, and ceiling and roof framing for residential construction.  Students will receive instruction in cutting stairs and installation of exterior windows and doors.

 

CARPENTRY 2 ADVANCED (5732) or (5732V)
Open to grades 11 and 12
2 credits - 2 terms 

Prerequisite:   Carpentry 2, with 80% mastery of competencies or teacher recommendation

Board-approved materials fee may be collected.

Educates students on various carpentry skills and tasks associated with construction other than residential framing.  These tasks include interior trim, interior doors, decks, hardwood flooring, storage buildings, remodeling procedures consisting of drywall repair, floor repair, and numerous other tasks required for remodeling operations.  Students will receive instruction on customer relations/communication and the administration portion of operating a small business as a sole proprietor/contractor, as well as participate in on-site tours of local industry and residential construction sites.
