School History

Watertown Elementary is located in a rural area of eastern Wilson County, Tennessee. It is named after the community of Watertown, the municipal where the school is located. The school's history dates back to 1909, when the two communities of Watertown and Cherry Valley joined and built a school at the present site of what is now Watertown High School. When the school officially opened in 1911, there were 325 pupils from primary through high school. A special school district was created in 1921, which separated Watertown from the rest of the Wilson County School System. In the late 1970's, the Watertown Special School District merged with Wilson County Schools once again.
