Virtual Learning Program Information
Welcome to the Barry Tatum Virtual Learning Academy for the 2021-2022 school year! We are excited to be serving your family this year! This email is a reminder that your child’s registration must be complete in Skyward for the 2021-2022 school year, before he/she will receive their student schedule. Please get your child’s registration completed as soon as possible. Student schedules will be released in Family Access for students and parents to view on Tuesday, August 3 after 3:00 p.m. In addition, as you begin preparing for the school year, we wanted to let you know that the Virtual Learning Academy’s hours will be from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. for students. Below, you will also find Virtual Learning Academy upcoming important dates and information.
Please ensure you have registered your child in Skyward for the 2021-2022 school year. This is a required process that is separate from the initial Virtual Learning Academy application that you completed and must be completed in Skyward as soon as possible. Please review the information provided in the links below to assist with the returning student and new student registration process. Please make sure you are logging into Skyward with your parent username and password and not your child’s username and password. In addition, you will also need to upload two approved forms of proof of residency. Chromebooks and materials:
Chromebooks will be available for distribution on August 4 from 12:00-3:00 p.m. at the Administrative & Training Complex located at 415 Harding Drive in Lebanon. You may park in the Event Center Parking Lot and walk to the back of the Event Center Entrance. Chromebook distribution will be assigned by grade level, therefore, you will need to find your child’s designated table with their grade level. Teachers will be stationed at each table to assist with this process. Attached, you will find a map of the Administrative & Training Complex, so that you are familiar with where to park and enter the building. An additional email will be sent with specific chrome book and material pick-up information as well as we get closer to August 4.
BTA VLA will be hosting a virtual orientation on August 5 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. You will receive the orientation meeting link and additional information as we approach the August 5 orientation date.
The first day of synchronous lessons for the Virtual Learning Academy will be Monday, August 9.
Middle school students will follow a six period schedule containing their core classes, such as Math, Science, English/Language Arts, as well as a Focus and Exploratory period. Meanwhile, high school students will be returning to block scheduling this school year. Students will have four blocks each semester, as well as a Focus period. Our Focus period for middle school will provide an opportunity for students to receive remediation and enrichment in each of their content areas. Our high school Focus time will be utilized to provide remediation, enrichment, as well as help adequately prep Student schedules will be released in Skyward on Tuesday, August 3 after 3:00 p.m. for students and parents to view. Your child’s registration must be complete in Skyward for him/her to receive their schedule. Meanwhile, if a schedule change needs to occur, students will submit a schedule change request form to administration. This form will be emailed to all students and parents, once we have released schedules.
Teachers will have office hours available on August 6 to assist students with ensuring they have all the necessary information to begin classes on Monday, August 9. This day will also be utilized to help students troubleshoot any issues they are encountering.
In addition, the Virtual Learning Academy has a new administrative team for the 2021-2022 school year.

What's Up Wilson!
The Wilson County Board of Education will hold a Work Session on October 28, 2021, at 5:00 p.m. and a Regular Board Meeting on November 1, 2021 at 6:00 p.m. at the Wilson County BOE Administrative & Training Complex, 415 Harding Drive, Lebanon TN 37087. The Work Session is for informational purposes only. No actions are taken, or voted on, by the Board at the Work Session. The purpose of the Board Meeting will be to discuss any matters legally brought before the Board.
This recommendation was approved unanimously by the WCS Board of Education on September 8, 2021: "To approve the recommendation from the Director of Schools to implement face covering requirements beginning Friday, September 10th, 2021 - with an opt-out provision pursuant to Executive Order 84 for all Wilson County Schools students, Wilson County Schools employees and adults on Wilson County Schools properties (during the school day) until October 4, 2021." This approved motion will be revisited at the October 4th BOE Meeting. Should families choose to opt-out of this approved requirement, then forms will be available via Skyward beginning on Thursday, September 9th. All families will receive additional notification tomorrow when the opt-out form is officially available.
