Director's Message

  • Jeff Luttrell

We are well into the first semester of school.  The first student progress reports were made available to families on September 2 and the grading period will end on October 4.

Our student enrollment has surpassed the 20,000 mark and continues to increase as new families move into our area.  Enrollment across all grade spans has increased since year-end. Wilson County, as a whole, including Wilson County Schools, is experiencing growing pains.  I want to thank you for your patience as we work through the hardships of this unprecedented time of growth. I know it is difficult and inconvenient for the family units when bus routes are down and parents are tasked with providing transportation to and from school for their children.  The Wilson County Schools Transportation Department runs a combined 454 bus routes daily. The number of routes continues to grow as new developments are approved and completed. We are looking at route efficiency and development in an effort to better serve our students.

It is with great excitement, anticipation, and expectation for the opening of the new Stoner Creek Elementary after Fall Break.  The families, students, staff, and community have been anxiously awaiting the time when their school would be rebuilt after the March 2020 tornadoes destroyed Stoner Creek Elementary and West Wilson Middle schools.  The plans and funding for the rebuild of West Wilson Middle School have been through the approval process and groundbreaking on the project is in the near future.

Enjoy the ending of summer and welcome the beginning of fall.  Fall Break is scheduled for October 6-14.  October 5 is professional development for teachers and students do not report to school on that day.

  • District Receives Great Designation From TDOE & 2021-2022 Reward Schools Announced

We are very excited to announce that Wilson County Schools has been designated as an “Advancing District” by the Tennessee Department of Education.  This designation places the district among the higher tier of academic performing districts across the entire state. This designation was based on various data points from the 2021-2022 school year. When taking into account the disruptions that COVID had caused in previous years, this designation is something to be extremely proud of.
