Greetings MJHS Students and Families,
One of our goals for the current school year is to improve student attendance and reduce the rate of chronic absenteeism (CA). A student is considered chronically absent when s/he has been absent for 10% or more of the days s/he has been enrolled. As of January 19, 2023, 18.66% of MJHS students were chronically absent. Educational research shows that attendance is an important factor in student achievement and success. Students, please help us address the CA rate by being present for school whenever possible.
Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, February 16, 4:15-7:00. These are drop-in meetings, a great time for parents to meet their child’s teachers. Mark your calendar now and plan to attend.
The Junior ACT Test is Tuesday, March 21. We are planning free ACT tutoring sessions to prepare juniors for this important test. We have two Saturday sessions planned; one is the morning of February 25th and one is in the afternoon on March 18th. We hope all juniors will plan to attend one of these two sessions to refresh their content knowledge!
The last day of school is May 25. Final exams will be given on the last two days, May 24-25. Per board policy, students may not take exams early. Make-up exams will be the following week, May 29-June 1.
Seniors

Counseling Updates
8th grade night will be Tuesday, February 7, 5:30-6:30. Rising 9th graders and their families are invited to attend an info session in the theater, ask questions to current students, and take a tour around the building.
On February 8, club picture day, we will take a picture of students who have scored 30+ on the ACT. This picture will be included in the yearbook and it will also be displayed in our commons area. We will also take pictures of seniors who will graduate Summa Cum Laude (GPA 4.25+), Magna Cum Laude (4.00-4.24), and Cum Laude (3.75-3.99). The counseling office sent emails this past week to the students who meet the criteria for these pictures.
