Summer Learning Camp 2023 FAQ

  • Registration for Summer Learning Camp closed on Friday, May 12, 2023.

What is a Summer Learning Camp?

NEW! Pursuant to the recent legislation of the Tennessee Learning Loss Remediation and Student Acceleration Act, our District must offer Summer Learning Camps to priority students currently in Grades Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. These camps are designed to ensure that our priority students are provided continuous instructional support during the summer months and are able to begin the upcoming school year ready to learn.  Summer Learning Camp will be provided by Wilson County teachers and staff who have completed the required state summer learning training. There is no cost for students who attend Summer Learning Camp.

What is the criteria for determining if my child is eligible for Summer Learning  Camp ?

Summer Learning Camp 2023 registration was emailed to our parents of our priority-list students currently in grades Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8.  Priority student eligibility is based upon the following TN Department of Education Criteria:

      • Scoring below proficient in TCAP or TE21 district benchmark in Math and/or ELA
      • Scoring below proficient (< 50%) on the iReady universal screener (Grades 3-8); Scoring < 40% on the iReady universal screener (Grades K-2)
      • A Pre-K - 2 student who attends a school during the school year in which fewer than 50% of the students in grades three through five (3-5) scored proficient in math or English Language Arts on the TCAP test.
      • A student who is eligible for temporary assistance from TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)

For specific information regarding your child’s eligibility, please contact your child’s school

What if one of my children is eligible for Summer Learning Camp and received the invitation but their siblings did not receive an invitation—can they also attend?

After the 30-day registration window closes for our priority students, the district will review student enrollment numbers to determine if additional space and staffing is available.

Will my child be guaranteed a seat in Summer Learning Camp?

Summer Camp seating is limited due to a variety of factors, including budget constraints, class size limits, and other scheduling considerations. In order to ensure that our priority students have access to the best possible learning environment, Summer Learning Camp seating is carefully managed to ensure that our students are able to receive the same quality of instruction. This means that there may be more students who are interested in attending Summer Learning Camp than can actually be accommodated. Therefore, Summer Learning Camp registration will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please complete the Summer Learning registration form in Skyward if you wish to register your child for Summer Learning Camp 2023.

Families will be notified once class capacities have been reached.  Students will then be placed on a waitlist.  You will be notified of student seat openings and locations to consider enrolling your child at that Summer Camp site location.

What if I did not receive the link and wanted my child to attend?

Summer Learning Camp 2023 registration was emailed specifically to our parents of our priority-list students. If you did not receive the registration link, your child was not identified as a priority student based on the TDOE criteria.

After the 30-day registration window closes for our priority students, the district will review student enrollment numbers to determine if additional space and staffing is available.
