Mr. Luttrell’s distinguished career in education began over 31 years ago in Trousdale County, before moving to Wilson County in 2000, where he served as a teacher and coach, and eventually Principal of Watertown High School (2007 - 2019).

During his tenure at Watertown High School, the school earned numerous academic honors and state awards. Under his leadership, Watertown High School saw significant gains in both graduation rates and ACT scores.

Mr. Luttrell accepted the position of Human Resources Supervisor for Wilson County Schools prior to being appointed Director of Schools by the Wilson County Board of Education, effective July 1, 2021.

Despite the challenges posed by the global pandemic, and the devastating loss of two schools in the March 2020 tornadoes, Wilson County Schools continued to exceed the state averages in both graduation rates and ACT scores for the 2021-2022 school year. Additionally, seven schools achieved Reward School status. Under Mr. Luttrell's guidance, Wilson County Schools has continued to exceed state average in performance and achievement.  His leadership has seen the district earn a Composite Level 5 designation, and an increase in schools earning Reward School status to a record number of fifteen (15) schools for the 2024-25 school year.

During Mr. Luttrell’s directorship, there has been significant advancement in the school-building program, including the reconstruction of Stoner Creek Elementary and West Wilson Middle School. To further meet the needs of our rapidly growing community, the new LaGuardo Elementary opened in Fall 2025, with Central Pike Elementary slated to follow in Fall 2026.  In addition, property has been purchased for a new Watertown Middle School and plans to renovate Lakeview Elementary School are in development.

Mr. Luttrell has been recognized both locally and statewide. His honors include being named the 2019 Middle Tennessee Principal of the Year by the Tennessee Association of Secondary Principals, and selected as the 2023 Superintendent of the Year by the Professional Educators of Tennessee, while most recently honored as the 2024 Wilsonian of the Year by the Mt. Juliet Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Luttrell holds multiple degrees and certifications in higher education.

Mr. Luttrell enjoys spending time with his family and working on his farm in Watertown.
