Degrees and Certifications:

Wilma Hawkins, Principal

I grew up in Shelbyville, TN (known as TN Walking Horse Capital of the World and Pencil City) and now reside in Murfreesboro.

I am in my 31st year in education and 11th year as an administrator. I began my teaching career in the Rutherford County School System, where I taught grades 3rd-5th and also worked as a Title I funded Interventionist and a Reading and Math Instructional Coach. I came to Wilson County in 2010 where I served as an Assistant Principal and Principal at Elzie D. Patton Elementary before coming to WA Wright Elementary.

I attended Middle Tennessee State University, where I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, Master’s Degree in Library Science and Specialist in Education Degree in Administration and Supervision.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, traveling and shopping at antique and thrift stores. I spend a lot of my time working in my church and being involved in the Rutherford County Community by serving on the Rutherford County Habitat for Humanity Home Selection Committee. I am also a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc.
