Health and Safety Protocols

  • Pre-Entry Checks (Staff, Students, & Visitors)

    The following safety measures will be in place at Springdale while the district is utilizing the traditional, hybrid, or remote models.

    Staff Precautions

    • All staff will have their temperature checked prior to the start of the instructional day. Any staff with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be isolated and referred to the school nurse for follow-up.
    • All staff will participate in a symptom check prior to the start of the instructional day. Any staff that exhibits symptoms of Covid-19 will be isolated and referred to the school nurse for follow-up.

    Student Precautions

    • Student temperature check upon building entry by Springdale faculty and staff.
    • Students will report directly to classrooms and be dismissed from classrooms in staggered order.
    • Symptom questionnaire administered by homeroom teacher.
    • All students will have their temperature checked prior to the start of the instructional day. Any student with a temperature of 100.4 or higher will be isolated and referred to the school nurse for follow-up.
    • Students who are car-riders will be dropped off at the back entrance and will have their temperature checked upon drop-off by faculty and staff members.
    • Students who ride the buses will be dropped off at the front entrance and will have their temperature checked upon drop-off by faculty & staff.
    • All students will participate in a symptom check prior to the start of the instructional day. Any student that exhibits symptoms of Covid-19 will be isolated and referred to the school nurse for follow-up.
    • All students who pass the temperature check when they arrive at school will report directly to their homeroom class. Students choosing to eat breakfast will get their food from the cafeteria and take it with them to class.

    Symptomatic Students and Staff

    • School Nurse will re-examine all students and staff that exhibit a high temperature or Covid-19 symptoms.
    • Students who present COVID symptoms will be quarantined from other students in a designated room.
    • School nurse will make appropriate referrals and send individuals home if warranted.
    • Students and staff that are sent home due to a temperature greater than 100.4 will be required to be fever free for 72 hours without medication before they can return to school per CDC guidelines.

    Risk Mitigation 

    The following safety measures will be in place at Springdale while the district is utilizing the traditional model.

    • Classes will operate with the cohort model.
      • K-3 self-contained classes & 4-5 teamed groups with rotations of teachers
    • Classes will be distanced and have assigned seating in all areas.
      • Ex: buses, classrooms, cafeteria, zones at recess
    • Visitors will be limited to secure vestibule unless they are conducting business on campus.
    • All meetings will continue to be held virtually using Google Meet and Docusign.
    • Hygiene practices lessons and training during the first week of school and throughout the year.
      • (i.e. handwashing)
    • Specific times scheduled throughout the day for handwashing.
    • Face coverings required on buses
    • Face coverings recommended at school for students
    • Face coverings are strongly encouraged at school for teachers and staff in high-risk areas(when within 6 feet of others).
    • No shared supplies.

    Face Coverings

    • It is our expectation that students and staff will wear face coverings while in the school building, and it is recommended that the adults model such behavior while interacting with others, both students and colleagues, while in the building.
    • All face coverings must comply with our district’s dress code.
    • Staff and students are required to wear face coverings on school buses.
    • Staff members are strongly encouraged to wear face coverings when a job task requires them to be within six feet of students.
    • Contractors and delivery drivers must wear face coverings if their task requires them to be in the building during the students’ instructional day.

    Clinic Referrals

    • Classroom teachers will make virtual clinic referrals to minimize risk to referred students and wait to hear from school nurse.
    • Classroom teachers will isolate symptomatic students while waiting for a response from the school nurse.
    • Nurse Michelle will contact teacher to make arrangements for the student referral.
    • Students and staff that are sent home due to a temperature of greater than 100.4 will be required to be fever free for 72 hours without medication before they can return to school per CDC guidelines.

    Clinic Procedures

    • Springdale will have two clinic locations for symptomatic and non-symptomatic students.
    • Symptomatic individuals will be evaluated by Nurse Michelle.
    • Nurse Michelle will only see one student at a time and will ensure the clinic is properly sanitized between students.
    • All non-symptomatic students will have access to the well clinic.
    • Daily medications will be administered in the well clinic by nurse or trained medical designee (faculty/staff trained by the district).

    Clinic Precautions

    • Face coverings will be recommended for students and staff that enter the clinic.
    • Hand sanitizer will be used when students or staff enter the clinic and again when they exit the clinic.
    • The school nurse will use appropriate *PPE when students or staff enter the clinic.
    • The school nurse will utilize enhanced PPE and isolation for high risk procedures such as breathing treatments and trach care.
    • The school nurse will sanitize surfaces between clinic visits.
    • The school nurse will isolate sick students.
    • A medical designee will be utilized as much as possible to minimize risk for students who take daily medicine.
    • Classroom teachers will be provided gloves and band-aids to reduce the number of clinic referrals.

    Cleaning

    Contracted Cleaning:

    • SMS will continue to deep clean each evening with special emphasis on common surfaces such as door handles.
    • SMS will use electrostatic sprayers to disinfect student and teacher desks during the evening.
    • SMS staff will be present during school hours to assist in sanitation as needed in the building at the direction of the administration (i.e. Bathrooms, cafeteria, common areas)

    Cleaning Agents:

    • Teachers and staff will only use approved cleaners. The SDS for the approved cleaners will be provided to all principals to comply with OSHA requirements.
    • Cleaners should be unscented to prevent reactions to susceptible students and staff, particularly those who suffer from asthma.

    Cleaning Classrooms

    • Teachers will facilitate disinfection of desks and other classroom furniture at the beginning/end of each class and at class changes.
    • No students supplies will be shared.
    • Students will be provided with their own set of needed materials (i.e. manipulatives, flash cards, copies of texts).
    • Should an item need to be reused (i.e. library books) they will only be given after appropriate cleaning by an adult.

    Health Promotion

    Print Media

    • Schools will be provided with posters and other print media from the CDC that promote effective handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer, other practices that prevent the spread of Covid-19, recognition of Covid-19 symptoms, and what to do in case of suspected infection.
    • Schools will post the provided print media throughout their facility.

    Other Media

    • Administrators will be provided an assortment of videos to deploy to their school that promote effective handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer, other practices that prevent the spread of Covid-19, recognition of Covid-19 symptoms, and what to do in case of suspected infection.
    • Administrators will be provided a series of brief statements to be included in morning announcements that promote effective handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer, other practices that prevent the spread of Covid-19, recognition of Covid-19 symptoms, and what to do in case of suspected infection.

    Instructional Units

    Teachers will be provided with age appropriate mini-lessons that promote effective handwashing and the use of hand sanitizer, other practices that prevent the spread of Covid-19, recognition of Covid-19 symptoms, and what to do in case of suspected infection.

    Breakfast and Lunch

    • In a traditional setting and hybrid setting, social distancing will be required in the cafeteria during breakfast & lunch times.
    • The tables will be spaced out in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines. Only a few classes will be eating in the cafeteria.The majority of the students will eat lunch in their classrooms unless otherwise specified by the homeroom teacher during the first week school. Parents will be notified at Open House individual class specifics.
    • Students will be escorted to pick up their food in the cafeteria with the teacher to whom they are assigned and return to the classroom to eat.
    • There will be numerous hand sanitizing stations in building and tables will be sanitized before and after meals.
    • Students choosing to eat breakfast will be permitted to pick it up and take it to their classroom.

    Restrooms

    • Student numbers will be limited to maintain social distancing in the restrooms.
    • Students will wash their hands after using the restrooms.
    • There will be visual reminders posted in each bathroom for proper handwashing techniques for students & staff.
    • Teachers have additional handwashing opportunities built into their daily schedules.

Visitors

    • Visitors will be limited to the secure vestibule near the front office unless they are doing business with the school (i.e. repairs and deliveries).
    • Visitors will have both a temperature check and a symptom check prior to entry to the building.
      • Should a visitor have an elevated temperature or exhibit symptoms, they will not be permitted into the school. The business and appropriate district personnel will be notified.
    • Student Items
      • A drop-off center will be located in the secure front vestibule. Staff will retrieve and distribute items once the visitor has exited the building.
    • Student Check-In/ Check-Out
      • Parents signing in/out their child will be permitted into the office to show proper ID. Face coverings are highly recommended. Parents will be restricted to wait on their child in the secure vestibule.
    • Meetings
      • All meetings will continue to be held virtually using Google meet and Docusign (i.e. IEP, 504, parent-teacher conferences, SIT meetings, etc.).

Transportation

    • Buses will be sanitized daily.
    • Students are required to wear face coverings on buses and practice social distancing.
    • The transportation department will oversee the daily sanitation of buses.

Student Field Trips

  • At this time, please note that as a district, we will not be scheduling field trips for the 2020-2021 school year.

Academic Instruction

  • Traditional Model

    • Monday through Friday (5 days a week) 7:00 AM to 2:30 PM
    • School experience with the following exceptions
      • Assigned seats for students in all settings
      • Students report directly to and are dismissed from classrooms as opposed to holding areas as in the past (i.e. gym, cafe, library, or hallways).
    • The majority of the students will eat lunch in their classrooms unless otherwise specified by the homeroom teacher during the first week school.
    • Parents will be notified at Open House individual class specifics.
    • Students will participate in recess.

    Hybrid Learning Model

    Hybrid Model Learning is only used as needed to respond to Covid-19 cases in our district and/or school community. Decision made by the director of schools.

    The Hybrid model would be utilized district wide if/when schools needed or were required to implement social distancing protocols made possible with only half the student body present at one time in the building.
    Notifications to change learning models will be made by 4PM on Thursdays.

     

    • Mondays: no students report; teachers have planning and meetings
    • Students report on their assigned days
      • A or B which is determined by transportation department
      • Out of Zone students will be notified by the school office.
      • On days students do not report, they will have remote learning assignments through Thrivist
      • What day does my child attend? This will be available soon in Skyward or you will be notified by the school staff.
    • Teachers will rotate throughout utilizing health and safety precautions (i.e. washing hands between working with different groups of students; wearing face covering).
    • Students will have assigned seats in every setting.
    • Students will have assigned zones at recess (i.e. 2 classes on the playground and 2 classes on the blacktop per grade level rotation).
    • Will only be used as needed to respond to Covid-19 cases in our district and/ or school community (decision made by the director of schools).

    Remote Learning Module

    Remote Model Learning is only used as needed to respond to Covid-19 cases in our district and/or school community.  Decisions are made by the Director of Schools, Dr. Donna Wright. 

    • Offered by Springdale staff
    • Students will participate in both self-paced (asynchronous) and live lessons (synchronous) at the direction of their assigned Springdale teacher.
      • All synchronous (live) learning that students must log-on for will be scheduled at minimum 2 days a week.
      • Each grade level will have a unique schedule that is similar to the schedule they have while in traditional and hybrid models.
      • Teachers will have daily office hours to field questions from families, assist individual or small groups based on student needs, call families, etc.
    • Students in grades 1-5 will be issued devices for use at home.
    • Teachers will communicate your child’s individual remote schedule during the first week of school.
    • Daily schedule determined by Springdale faculty and staff.

    Virtual Learning

    • Offered by Wilson County Schools
    • Must commit to remote learning for an entire semester (Aug-Dec or Jan-May)
    • Teachers TBD by district & will include some Springdale teachers depending on numbers
    • Peers may be from around the district
    • Daily schedule determined by district
    • Virtual learning process informational video from WCS
    • WCS Virtual enrollment website
    • Deadline for virtual enrollment is 7/19/20

Academic Honor Code

  • It is the responsibility of every student and employee to exhibit honesty, trust, fairness, respect, and responsibility in academic work at all times to support a positive learning environment in the school.

    Academic dishonesty is the failure to maintain academic integrity. 

    Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to: cheating; doing work for another student; parents completing student assignments, presenting another student’s work as one’s own; and plagiarism.

    To help all stakeholders in this process, we have created the following definitions of Academic Dishonesty that outlines those actions that do not align with Be a panther!

Technology Support

  • Chromebook Distribution

    • Every student (Grades 1-5) will have the option to check out a Chromebook from the Library Media Center. In the traditional setting, students will report to the Library Media Center at their pick up time. In the event of a remote model setting, students will be assigned a pick-up time to pick-up needed technology along with textbooks.
    • Prior to checking out a Chromebook, parents and students must review and sign the Student Device Agreement form.

    Thrivist Online Learning Management System

    • Wilson County Schools will be using a single location for students to find all of their online core classwork.
    • Thrivist is an online learning platform that will be used by all homeroom classes. Teachers will use Thrivist in the traditional, hybrid, and remote settings.
    • All teachers and administrators received training over the summer. Tutorials on Thrivist for students and parents will be available at the beginning of the school year to guide parents and students on usage.

Exceptional Education Department

    • Direct and related services will be provided no matter what learning model the District transitions to as a result of Covid-19. Services will continue to be individualized for students.
