Students are expected to be respectful, participate in Summer Learning Camp programs and activities, and complete classwork as assigned. Any discipline issues will be reported to parents and the Site Coordinator will work with the parents to determine the appropriate course of action for the student, which may include a behavior plan. If discipline issues continue, the District-level Coordinator will determine the course of action for the student, which may include dismissal from the program.
Attendance Expectations
In order to receive the maximum benefit from Summer Learning Camps, students are expected to attend at minimum 90% of the entire program. Students are expected to attend all scheduled camp days unless illness or emergency prevents attendance. The parent will be expected to contact the student’s Instructor or Site Coordinator by e-mail as soon as possible if he/she will be absent. If the student has more than 3 unexcused absences, the student will be dismissed from the summer learning camp program.
Students will also be expected to be on time for Learning Camp instruction. Tardiness will be recorded by the student’s instructor. If a student is tardy more than 3 times, the student will receive an initial warning. If tardiness continues after the warning, the student will be dismissed from the Summer Learning Camp.

GENERAL INFORMATION AND PROCEDURES
Learning Camp Staffing and Student Grouping
All Learning Camp staff are contracted with Wilson County Schools and undergo a fingerprint background check prior to working with students.
Students will be grouped with students from the same grade band and will be assigned a certified teacher or a learning camp instructor that has attended curriculum training to teach intervention and skills-based instruction.
Early Pick-Up/Release of Students
Anyone picking up a student will be required to show identification. If someone other than the parent/guardian (must be over age 18) will be picking up your child, that person must be listed on the child’s authorized pick up list. Your child will not be released to anyone not on the list without your written consent- no exceptions. These procedures are strictly enforced.
Visitors
To protect the safety of all students and staff, visitors will not be permitted during learning camp hours.
Student Dress and Personal Items
Students should wear comfortable play clothes, socks, sneakers, and sunscreen. Some outdoor play will be incorporated into the learning camp day if weather allows, so please plan accordingly.
Wilson County Schools recommends that you label all your child’s items. Do not send toys, games, cards, etc. to learning camp as we cannot be responsible for these items. Note that Wilson County Schools, nor its employees, will be responsible for the loss or damage of any personal property brought to camp, including electronic devices. A “Lost and Found” will be maintained at each site location in the front office. Unclaimed items will be donated if not claimed by the end of the summer learning camp.
Wilson County Schools Policies and Procedures
The handbook is intended to provide families with information related to Summer Learning Camps. All Wilson County Schools policies and procedures will apply to Summer Learning Camp students. This handbook is not an exclusive list of student policies. For a complete list of policies refer to the Wilson County Board of Education Policies which can be found online at www.wcschools.com. The policies or procedures set forth in this Handbook may be revised, modified or amended, in which case the most current policy/procedure will govern.
