WCS Rolls Into Full Remote: December 14 - December 18
All Wilson County Schools will be in a REMOTE LEARNING setting during the week of Monday, December 14th - Friday December 18th 2020. This Remote Learning period will lead into the upcoming Holiday/Winter Break. It’s the intention for students in all of our schools to return to their respective teaching and learning models on Tuesday, January 5, 2021(K-5 Traditional & Grades 6-12 Hybrid).
The reason for this change in learning is due to an increasing number of students and staff affected by COVID-19, and out of the extreme caution for keeping our school community healthy.
This week, there are eight schools (around 1/3 of our entire district) operating on a Remote Learning Plan. A few schools were scheduled to roll off Remote Learning next week. That is no longer taking place. Today’s announcement replaces any of those prior notices.
Schools already on Remote Learning this week and scheduled to remain on Remote Learning through next week, will continue on as originally instructed. Schools operating on Traditional or Hybrid this week will be open on Thursday, December 10th and Friday, December 11th.
Again, this Remote Learning period will go into effect for all schools on Monday, December 14th.
There are no changes to the Virtual Learning Program. Students enrolled in the VLP are not affected with this announcement.
PLEASE NOTE: All of our schools who are transitioning to Remote Learning on 12/14 will be sending more detailed and specific information to their families by 12:00 PM on Thursday, December 10th. Please be on the lookout for that important information. It will answer many questions that you may have.
Food Service will be available using our remote learning protocols. Should any students need food assistance during this time, then please email a cafeteria manager with any of our schools. Drive-thru meal pickup will be available at all of our campuses during the week of December 14th – 18th. Please place those orders by 9:00 AM each school day. Meals can be picked up from 10:30-11:30 AM. The contact info for cafeterias can be found by visiting School Cafeteria Managers.
For families that may be struggling with reliable access to the internet, please know that parking lots at these affected schools have been made available as a hotspot for additional support during this time. Also, please notify your student’s teachers if your internet is not reliable so that we can provide learning packets as needed.
All Kids Club activities will remain open, unless notified otherwise.
All extracurricular activities and athletic competition will resume, unless notified otherwise.
We understand that this is a very difficult time for everyone and we appreciate all of the flexibility extended during implementation of our Remote Learning. Please let your student’s teachers know about individual needs or concerns. We will continue to give you updates as information becomes available.
We are in this together!
